BCCI, on 8th December, announced the 18-member Test Squad for the three match test series against South Africa starting from 26th December 2021.

The Test Squad is as follows:

Virat Kohli (Capt),Rohit Sharma(vc), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant(wk), Wriddhiman Saha(wk), R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Md. Siraj.

Standby Players are: Navdeep Saini, Saurabh Kumar, Deepak Chahar and Arzan Nagwaswalla.

The following players were not available for selection due to injuries and are currently undergoing rehabilitation: Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Rahul Chahar.

Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur make a comeback after rest.

Due to the recent form, Ajinkya Rahane has lost his position of the vice-captain of the team, Rohit Sharma replaces him as the Vice-captain of the team. Hanuma Vihari makes a comeback in the Indian team. Umesh Yadav and Jayant Yadav also selected for the South Africa tour.

The Selection Committee also named Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI team of India.

The BCCI, till now, has not given any statement for the reasons of making Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain. The BCCI has till now not given any official farewell message for Virat Kohli for his ODI captaincy.

Virat Kohli, as of now has not given his statement of leaving the ODI captaincy.
